I've always had a thing for homemade garlic bread. It's just way too good—something about the crusty bread smothered in vegan garlic butter.
It makes the perfect side dish for a pasta dish, soup night, or just because you want a side of garlic bread.
My kids LOVE garlic bread. They were so excited when I was recipe testing for this.
Let's talk about vegan parmesan cheese here. I think it makes the recipe pop, and you shouldn't leave it out.
I used my cashew parmesan recipe; it can be made in 5 minutes and tastes amazing with this recipe.
You can also use a store-bought version, or if all you have is vegan mozzarella, you can add that before broiling it.

Can I use olive oil instead of vegan butter?
I like the flavor of vegan butter, but I know some people prefer olive oil, I have never tried it, but I think it would work fine if you swapped the vegan butter for olive oil.
What's the best plant-based butter?
This is going to vary on your taste buds, but our favorite is Country Crock plant butter.
Some people love Earth Balance, Miyoko's, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Vegan version, whichever your favorite is
Can I leave out the vegan mayonnaise?
You could, but I would leave it in the recipe for the best results. It brings a bit of a tang and creaminess that makes this recipe unique.
What types of bread make the best garlic bread?
The best type of bread is going to vary per your taste buds.
Here are some options;
- french baguette
- ciabatta loaf
- sourdough bread
- Texas toast

How do you make this easy vegan garlic bread?
Preheat your oven to broil; get a large baking sheet, place aluminum foil or parchment paper on it, and set it aside.
Take a small bowl and combine your vegan butter, vegan mayo, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and onion powder; stir this until it's mixed together. I used a fork to break it all up.
Take your loaf of bread and slice it down the middle like a hamburger bun.
Now slather the vegan garlic butter mixture on the open slices of the loaf.
Place the bread butter side up on the prepared baking sheet and broil for 2-7 minutes *watching closely because it can go from good to burnt in two seconds.
The cooking time will also depend on how thick your bread is.
Mine was very thick and done in 6 minutes, burnt at 7 minutes.
Check at the 2-minute mark. I like to leave my oven light on to ensure it doesn't burn.
Take your vegan parmesan and sprinkle it on the cooked, crispy vegan garlic bread while it's still warm.
Slice the bread and serve.
You can also cut your bread into thinner slices and take about 1 tablespoon garlic butter, depending on the bread slice's size, spread it on each slice and place the non-buttered side on the baking sheet, then broil that way.
How do you serve this vegan garlic bread?
This is best served warm in slices. It goes great with Italian food, soups, or whatever you like garlic bread with.
You can cut this in thicker slices or thin slices. However, you enjoy your garlic bread.
I love to use fluffy bread in thick slices.
Keep it in a warm place until you're ready to serve.
How do you store leftover garlic bread?
We very rarely have leftover garlic bread around here, but if you do, you can place the bread in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days on the counter.
You can eat as is, reheat in the microwave, or broil quickly in the oven.
Can you freeze garlic bread?
You can place the slices in a freezer bag and put them in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Let defrost on the counter, then reheat in the oven.
