Start with a small bowl and combine vegetable broth, soy sauce, plank milk, nutritional yeast, and pepper; stir these together and set aside.
Now take a small saucepan and melt the vegan butter; once melted, add ¼ cup of flour and whisk until it's thickened. Slowly pour about a half cup of the above mixture and whisk until it thickens and smooths out the flour/butter combo. Now slowly add the rest of the liquid, whisking until combined. Now simmer until it's thickened to your desired thickness, stirring frequently.
You can serve immediately or heat it later and let the flavors have time to blend.
